Yellow stage 2 snowfall warning issued for components of Jap Cape – SABC Information

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive snowfalls in the northern high-laying areas of the Eastern Cape, and a yellow level 2 warning for damaging winds and waves over the ocean between Plettenberg Bay and East London.

Very cold conditions are expected to persist in various parts of the province and communities are urged to practise caution against the anticipated cold front on Sunday and Monday.

Weather expert, Garth Sampson says the weather conditions can be extremely dangerous.

“It is best to avoid areas where disruptive snow is forecast as icy roads can be a nightmare and extremely dangerous. If you are on the road, always carry extra warm clothes and food, so that you can be safe in the event that you get stuck. If you are in the open always seek a dry place to shelter. When strong winds are forecast it is best to avoid all waterways, not only the sea, but large rivers, lakes etc can be very dangerous in extreme winds. Avoid parking your vehicle near trees and temporary structures as numerous accidents and fatalities have occurred by trees falling in strong winds.”
