The Moroccan Football Federation, FRMF, has officially filed a petition to the Confederation of African Football, CAF, calling for the suspension of Namibian referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa for supposedly failing to award a vital penalty during the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, against the Super Falcons of Nigeria last Saturday.
As reported by Morocco World News, the petition cites “refereeing injustices”.
FRMF claimed that Twanyanyukwa’s decision significantly influenced the result of the WAFCON final.
Recall that in the 82nd minute, the scoreline was tied at 2-2 when the referee gave Morocco a penalty.
Twanyanyukwa took the decision after she suspected handball by Nigeria’s Oluwatosin Demehin.
But after Video Assistant Referee, VAR, review, Twanyanyukwa overturned her decision because Demehin’s arm was close to her body.
Meanwhile, a few minutes later, Nigeria scored the winning goal via Jennifer Echegini as the match ended 3-2.
