President Cyril Ramaphosa says the decision by the US Congress committee on foreign affairs to approve the bill is aimed at punishing South Africa. He says it has to go through process before it can be the law.
The Republican Congressman Ronny Jackson has called for a review of the U.S, South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act of 2025.
Jackson says it will aid to provide President Donald Trump with the tools necessary to impose sanctions on South African officials in government.

In particular the ANC who choose to support American adversaries like China, Russia and Iran. Ramaphosa told the media that South Africa will continue to engage the US.
“We have heard about what has happened in the house committee and the whole process still has a long way to go and discussions will be on going and we don’t know what is driving all these. Our bilateral dealing and engagements with the United States will continue.”
