The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, concluded his official visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where he engaged in high-level talks with the country’s senior military and political leadership, including President Félix Tshisekedi.

During the visit, Gen. Kainerugaba held discussions with top commanders of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC), led by his counterpart Lieutenant General Jules Banza Mwilambwe. Their meeting focused on evaluating the progress of ongoing joint military efforts, particularly Operation Shujaa, as well as other shared security interests.

The two military leaders formalized their cooperation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening coordination in the fight against terrorism and enhancing security along the common border.

Gen. Kainerugaba later paid a courtesy call to President Tshisekedi at the Palais de la Nation (State House), where they held broader discussions on bilateral relations between Uganda and the DRC.

Before concluding his visit, Lt Gen Mwilambwe hosted a formal dinner in Gen. Kainerugaba’s honor. The event was attended by senior FARDC officers and high-ranking members of the Congolese government.

On his departure, Gen. Kainerugaba was seen off at N’djili International Airport by Lt Gen Mwilambwe and other senior military and government dignitaries.

This visit underscores the continued strengthening of military cooperation and diplomatic engagement between Kampala and Kinshasa, as both nations work together to promote peace and stability in eastern DRC and the broader East African region.
