Trade union, Solidarity has reached out to FlySafair CEO Elmar Conradie, urging him to intervene in the strike action and bring parties back to the negotiating table.
This as the strike by the airline’s pilots enters week two with a deadlock on working conditions.
At the heart of the dispute is the pilots’ roster system.
Solidarity says the pilots find the roster unpredictable, with ten pilots having resigned in the past month due to the roster.
Solidarity’s Secretary-General Gideon du Plessis says now they look to the company’s CEO.
“We would have had a settlement but there are so many egos involved, and things, you know, sideshows, that actually makes it difficult. So, the sustainability of the company, we obviously take that into consideration but the stumbling block is not a sustainability, the stumbling block is people in the negotiating team. You know, it’s seemingly, you know, they have quite a dislike in pilots, although that’s your most important employees and I think that’s where the stumbling block lies, and that’s why we ask the CEO. You know, we understand he’s quite a skillful negotiator. Elmar Conradie is a more reasonable person to deal with, so we want him to start to get involved. And then we have a settlement, as simple as that.”
