Unhealthy outcome – Ten Hag reacts to Bayer Leverkusen’s newest 5-1 defeat

New Bayer Leverkusen manager, Erik ten Hag, has reacted to his side’s 5-1 defeat against Flamengo’s U-20 team in a pre-season friendly on Friday.

The Dutchman described the outcome of the encounter as a “bad result,” adding that he doesn’t give a “sh*t about pre-season results.”

DAILY POST reports that the match was Ten Hag’s first game in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

Ten Hag, who was sacked at Manchester United last October, recently replaced Xabi Alonso at the former Bundesliga champions.

He named a strong starting XI, sticking with Alonso’s 3-4-2-1 system, but they eventually ended up losing the friendly match.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said: “The result looks bad, but I don’t give a sh*t about pre-season results.

“We should never lose, not even by a big margin, but for me, the most important thing was not losing any players. It would have been better to play the match later.”

Bayer Leverkusen’s next friendly game is against VfL Bochum on Sunday, 27 July.
