Legendary Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, born Joseph Mayanja, has announced a significant lifestyle change as he nears his 50th birthday. At 47, the celebrated artist has decided to quit alcohol and cigarettes following a life-altering health scare that included major pancreas surgery during an extended stay in the United States.

Chameleone revealed that his near-death experience during the four months of medical treatment was a pivotal moment that transformed his outlook on life. “God has given me another chance,” he said, describing himself as reborn and committed to adopting healthier habits.

Returning to Uganda on April 12, 2025, Chameleone was greeted with warmth and admiration at Entebbe International Airport, with fans celebrating his resilience and renewed vigor. Though still undergoing follow-up treatments, he expressed determination to prioritize his well-being for the sake of his family, his music, and his fans.

This bold personal decision reflects a growing awareness among African celebrities about health and longevity, inspiring many to rethink their lifestyle choices.
