Twenty-eight more suspected illegal miners have resurfaced at the Sheba Gold Mine in Barberton, Mpumalanga.
The latest number brings to 546 people arrested at the mine since last week.
On Friday, 494 illegal miners were arrested and 24 others were arrested yesterday.
Police say they expect to arrest more illegal miners in the coming days.
It is reported that the food supply has been cut to force those underground to resurface.
The illegal miners arrested on Friday appeared in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court and their matter was postponed to next Monday for further investigation.
Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli says the illegal miners who were arrested yesterday and this morning will appear in court once processed.
They are facing charges that include illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.
