The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) has warned motorists of potential traffic delays in Pretoria this morning because of two marches.

One march is organised by Defend South Africa and other civic movements and the other by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party.

The two groups will march from Marabastad and Church Square, respectively, to the Union Buildings.

The Defend South Africa group is demanding President Cyril Ramaphosa’s immediate resignation, while the MK Party’s march is in support of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Police have urged motorists to use alternative routes such as Visagie, Nana Sita, Stanza Bopape, Pretorius and Es’kia Mphahlele streets.

According to the statement by the Tshwane Metro Police Department, the marchers are expected to disperse from the Union Buildings at 14:30 in the afternoon.

The following streets will be affected: Struben, Sophy de Bruyn, Madiba, Bosman, Paul Kruger, Thabo Sehume, Lillian Ngoyi, Sisulu, Du Toit, Nelson Mandela Drive, Steve Biko and Hamilton Street.

The Tshwane Metro Police and South African Police Service officers will be deployed to monitor the march and all affected streets.
