The Real Prince is the winner of the country’s premier horse racing event, the 2025 Durban July. Ridden by Jockey, Craig Zackey, and trained by Dean Kannemeyer, the Real Prince beat favourite, Eight of Eighteen, by the narrowest of margins to win the race.

The theme for this year’s Durban July is “Marvels of Mzansi”.

It celebrates South Africa’s heritage, cultural diversity, and breathtaking landscapes.

It pays tribute to the nation’s achievements and aims to unite people in a vibrant display of South African culture and creativity.

Eight of Eighteen was the favourite to take top honours at this weekend’s Durban July at the Greyville Racecourse.

All eyes were on the three-year-old colt, trained by Justin Snaith and ridden by champion jockey Richard Fourie.

Eight of Eighteen came into the R5 million Durban July on the back of some impressive results.

He came out tops at the prestigious Cape Town Met in January, and again at the SplashOut Cape Derby a month later.

Oriental Charm, the winner from last year, was expected to give Eight of Eighteen a run for his money.

And it seemed that was the case when Oriental Charm, ridden by Jockey Juan-Paul Van Der Merwe went into the lead early on.

However, Eight of Eighteen, ridden by Jockey, Richard Fourie, went into the lead towards the finish with the Real Prince not far behind.

The two were neck-and-neck with the Real Prince winning by the narrowest of margin.
