A fifteen-year-old girl from Horison, Johannesburg, has died in a horrific collision between a quad bike and a car in Roodepoort, near the Westgate Mall.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD)  says the accident happened just after midday, at the corner of Swart Avenue and Andries Bruyn Street.

It involved a vehicle with two occupants and a quad bike carrying two teenagers.

The 15-year-old girl on the bike was declared dead at the scene. The teenage boy she was with, along with the couple in the vehicle, were taken to Flora Hospital for medical attention.

Although witnesses claim the quad bike may have ignored a stop sign, JMPD says the cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The impact left the quad bike embedded in the vehicle, and it was dragged about 50m from the point of collision.

Police have opened a case of culpable homicide.

Community Policing Forum members are criticising authorities for allegedly ignoring repeated calls to address traffic safety concerns in the area.
