The National Treasury has confirmed that it swiftly neutralised a malware attack targeting its Infrastructure Reporting Model (IRM) website on Tuesday afternoon.
The attempted breach triggered an immediate response, with compromised servers isolated to assess the damage and protect critical data.
This incident follows recent global cybersecurity concerns, including attacks on Microsoft platforms in the US.
The Treasury has since enlisted Microsoft to assist in identifying any vulnerabilities within the department’s ICT environment.
The Treasury says, despite the attempted intrusion, its operations remain fully functional. “All systems are operating normally,” the department says, noting it continues to process over 200 000 emails and manage 400 000 website connections daily without interruption.
