Tanzania kicked off their CHAN 2024 campaign in style with a solid 2–0 win over Burkina Faso in the tournament opener at a packed Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The Taifa Stars made their intentions clear from the start, driven forward by a lively home crowd. Their breakthrough came in the first half when Sulaiman Abdul calmly slotted home from the penalty spot after a Burkina Faso defender was penalized for handball. The goal gave Tanzania a deserved lead going into the break.

In the second half, the hosts kept up the pressure. Their second came through Hussein M, capping off a well-worked team move that highlighted Tanzania’s growing confidence and sharpness in front of goal.

Burkina Faso had a few promising moments but struggled to break down a well-organized Tanzanian defense. The home side’s goalkeeper stepped up when needed, pulling off a couple of important saves to preserve the clean sheet.
The win gives Tanzania an early boost in their group and sets a strong tone for the rest of the tournament, which is being held across East Africa.
