Switch: Why we signed Partey amid rape allegations – Villarreal

Villarreal have explained why they chose to sign Thomas Partey amid the rape allegations he is currently facing.

The LaLiga club confirmed the transfer of Partey, who became a free agent after leaving Arsenal, on Thursday.

The 32-year-old appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Tuesday, where he was granted bail.

Partey has now signed a two-year deal with Villarreal.

An official statement read: “The club is aware that the player is currently involved in legal proceedings in England.

“The player now firmly maintains his innocence and denies all the charges.

“The club respects the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and will await the outcome of the judicial process, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts of the case.”
