Suspended Gauteng Judge Tintswalo “Nana” Makhubele faces possible impeachment. This is after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) found the suspended Judge guilty of gross misconduct for accepting appointment as chairperson of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) board whilst being a Judge, as well as failing to act honourably during her tenure at Prasa.
This comes after the civil society organisation #UniteBehind filed a complaint.
The organisation alleges that Makhubele violated the separation of powers principle by being both a judge and chairperson of the Prasa board.
It alleges that she also advanced corruption and state capture.
The JSC has now resolved to refer the matter to the Speaker of the National Assembly to recommend the commencement of removal proceedings in terms of Section 177 (impeachment), where two-thirds is required for impeachment.
