Three suspects have been arrested in Phillipi on the Cape Flats for the alleged possession of a stolen vehicle, firearms and ammunition.
City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith says members of the K-9 unit were driving on Varkensvlei Road, when they spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen in Mitchells Plain earlier in the day.
Smith says the officers gave chase and during that time the suspects pointed a firearm at the officers who then opened fire.
He says the suspects were apprehended in Landsdowne Road after they got out of the vehicle.
Smith says two complainants identified the suspects as having robbed them.
