Gunmen suspected to be members of the Iceland cult group have reportedly killed the Vice Chairman of the Obelle Council of Chiefs in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Ferdinand Dabiri.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2025, while Chief Dabiri and other traditional leaders were holding a meeting at Omuwoka village in Obelle.
Sources revealed that the assailants, led by an individual popularly known as ‘Cairo’, arrived at the venue on a motorcycle.
‘Cairo’ allegedly came down from his motorcycle, approached Chief Dabiri, and shot him twice at close range before fleeing the scene.
The attack caused chaos at the meeting, prompting other chiefs and community members to flee for safety.
Chief Dabiri’s second son, Joseph Eze Dabiri, confirmed the killing in an interview with journalists.
He said, “I heard that a guy came with gun while my father was in a meeting at Omuwoka village in Obelle,shot at him twice and fled on Saturday evening.”
Dabiri further disclosed that the matter has been reported to the Rumuji Police Division and called for justice to be served.
The Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko assured that the police is on the issue.
Iringe-Koko added that after the operations of the police, the pubic would be notified.
