A former municipal manager of the Umzimkhulu Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal is expected to appear in a local magistrate’s court on Tuesday.

The 55-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Secretary Sindiso Magaqa in 2017.

Magaqa was a councillor in the municipality when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle he was travelling in.

Last month, the gunman Sibusiso Ncengwa pleaded guilty in the High Court in Pietermaritzburg.

The National Police Spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe says, “The former municipal manager of the Umzimkhulu local municipality was arrested in Malvern. He was previously arrested in 2018 alongside the late mayor of the Umzimkhulu local municipality, a businessman, two former police officers, and a hitman.”
