Betway Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns did not have an ideal start in the 2025/2026 season.
Sundowns dropped two valuable points after playing a 1-all draw against Chippa United, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, in Gqeberha.
Newly signed defender, Fawaaz Basadien, made his debut for Mamelodi Sundowns against Chippa United. Also making his debut in the Betway Premiership as head coach was Chippa United mentor, Sinethemba Badela.
The 35-year-old Badela is a former Sundowns development coach.

Sundowns eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through Brazilian Arthur Sales after receiving a pass from Tashreeq Matthews.
Khaya Mfecane equalised on his debut for Chippa United 25 minutes before regulation time.
