Stellenbosch College Choir makes a mark on the worldwide stage – SABC Information

The Stellenbosch University Choir (SU) has won three gold medals at the Interkulture European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations 2025 competition in Denmark, making it one of the world’s leading amateur choirs.

The competition saw 132 choirs from 33 countries competing in various categories.

SU choir conductor, André van der Merwe says their achievement of over 95% for all three categories is an incredible compliment at an international level.

Van der Merwe says his students have made him proud.

“I’m still pinching myself after this week. Besides our competition categories, we presented a concert and bonded with so many choristers from across the world. Everywhere the choir members walked in Aarhus, I could see how people engaged with them. It is incredible that this little choir from South Africa is so well known and well-loved all over the world,” he say,.
