US President Donald Trump’s tariff decision has rattled the markets and sent a wave of uncertainty through the global economy.
Jonas says these are unprecedented times but the world should not despair.
“My role really is as Presidential Special Envoy is to advice on policy. I do engagements, but I think my main focus is building South Africa’s response to this reality and engaging with all the agencies of the state, but also engaging with all stakeholders in the private sector in civil society so that South Africans speak with one voice with these issues.”
This, while the US claimed to have clinched a huge trade deal with the European Union, that includes a 15% tariff on most EU goods, 600 billion dollars of investments in the US by the European firms and 750 billion dollars in energy purchases over the next three years.
