President Cyril Ramaphosa has reiterated that there should never be vengeance and attribution against BRICS countries, which he says are not competing with any power, but only seek the development of humanity as a whole.
He has been reacting to US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the US will impose an additional 10% tariff on any countries aligning themselves with the “anti-American policies” of the BRICS group of developing nations.
Ramaphosa has addressed the media at the end of a summit in Brazil.
“It’s really disappointing that when there’s such a positive collective manifestation such as BRICS (that) there should be others who see it in negative light and want to punish those who participate in this. It cannot be and should not be. We should be respecting the sovereignty of countries. We should be respecting that we are all equal … that all we should be focusing on is enhancing the prosperity of humanity and in all countries,” says Ramaphosa.
“It cannot be that might should now be right where in the end those who are powerful are the ones who seek vengeance against the ones who are seeking to do good in the world,” adds Ramaphosa.
