‘Ramaphosa is incapable of appearing towards personal ministers’ – SABC Information

Political analyst, Dale McKinley, says President Cyril Ramaphosa has demonstrated a lack of political will to deal with ministers accused of wrongdoing.

This comes after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, made damning allegations about organised crime syndicates infiltrating the country’s justice system and political interference in police investigations.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) recently called for the removal of Higher Education Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane, Human Settlements Minister, Thembi Simelane and Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, David Mahlobo, for allegedly being implicated in corruption. However, no action has been taken against them.

“He has shown himself not capable of acting against his own ministers who have serious allegations against them. The ANC’s own step-aside rule is very clear, which is that if there are serious allegations, those people must step-aside until they’re tested and yet, we have these three ministers in the cabinet and we have other senior officials where there’s serious allegations stemming back from the State Capture and even more recently and yet nothing is being done. Politically, he seems incapable because he doesn’t seem to want to act because he’s more interested in the balances of factional matters within the ANC, than he is in terms of national interest,” says McKinley.

Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza has directed Parliament to consider on an urgent basis revelations concerning the safety and security of the country.

The committees that are going to urgently look into this matter are Police, Justice, and Constitutional Development, as well as the Joint Standing Committee on Intelligence.

Didiza wants the portfolio committees to, in terms of their respective mandates, consider security matters and report to the National Assembly.
