Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says the President has the prerogative as head of state to appoint or remove ministers and deputy ministers.

Ntshavheni confirmed during the post-cabinet briefing yesterday that President Cyril Ramaphosa removed Trade, Industry and Competition Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield from his position.

She says, “The President has exercised power in two forms, there’s a power that he exercises collectively with his Parliament and there’s a power that he exercises alone as the President.”

“The decision to appoint or remove or to reshuffle ministers and deputy ministers, that’s the sole prerogative of the President. He exercises that without consulting anyone, but that’s his sole decision,” Ntshavheni adds.
