Popcru commits to rooting out corruption in SAPS – SABC Information

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) says it is committed to rooting out corruption amid news of the arrest of ten police officers in Johannesburg.

The officers were arrested during a raid by the tactical response team.

Six of the arrested officers are from the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, while the other four are SAPS members from Tsakane police station.

An amount of R45 000 in cash was recovered during the arrest.

Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says, “We do not have sufficient details at the moment. But of course, we have been made aware of the reports from the media. As an organization, we are committed to upholding ethical conduct and accountability within the SAPS.”

“We respect the constitutional mandate that has been given to the oversight bodies, such as IPID, to investigate members within the service itself. So at this stage, there remain allegations, and we would like to urge all parties to allow due legal processes to unfold. As a union, we’re against any form of criminality or against any form of corruption.”
