The Police in Borno State has began a manhunt for four unidentified cattle herders accused of attacking a farmer with a machete in Kurnari village, Felo community of Gubio Local Government Area.

According to a post on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama via X, the incident occurred on Friday, August 2, around 7:30 a.m. when the victim, 30-year-old Modu Kyellu, was working on his millet farm.

It was reported that the four herders led their cattle into the farm, and when Kyellu attempted to drive them out, one of the herders attacked him with a machete, leaving a deep cut on his left cheek before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, police personnel from the Gubio Division, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters, visited the site for an on-the-spot assessment and documentation.

Kyellu was immediately taken to the Gubio Primary Healthcare Centre for treatment.

Police authorities say efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. In a bid to prevent reprisals or further escalation, the command has also initiated peace meetings involving the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Fulani leaders, and local farmers.
