The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna State, has expressed worry over the strike embarked upon by lecturers in the state, noting it will lead to the collapse of education.

The PDP Chairman, Kaduna State and Chairman Forum of 19 Northern States, Edward Percy Masha, in a statement on Friday, said the party was deeply concerned about the warning strike action initiated by staff unions in state-owned tertiary institutions in the state, including the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna State College of Education, Kaduna State College of Nursing, and Shehu Idris College of Health Technology, over poor working conditions and infrastructural decay.

According to the statement, “the strike, which commenced in the early hours of yesterday, poses a significant threat to the academic calendar, the future of thousands of students, and thus, is a wake-up call for our government to take immediate action.”

“We are deeply concerned that thousands of students are at risk of delayed graduation and traumatic experiences due to the government’s neglect of the education sector.”

”Given the substantial financial resources accrued to the APC administration under Governor Uba Sani over the past two years, there is no justification for the lack of attention to education.”

The PDP said it stands in solidarity with the workers’ unions and urged the government to engage in dialogue to meet their demands, adding that education is a fundamental right, and the government’s duty to provide a conducive environment for teachers and learners.

The party said it sympathized with the lecturers and students affected and assured them of its unwavering commitment to ensuring a responsible and responsive government.

The statement appealed to citizens to remain patient and keep faith with the PDP as they work towards changing “this inept APC administration and ensuring a better future for Kaduna State through the ballot.’
