Tension enveloped the Ipetumodu community in Osun State on Thursday following the gruesome discovery of a local farmer, Akeem Jimoh, who was found dead on his farmland situated at the boundary between Ipetumodu and the neighbouring town of Asipa.
Jimoh was said to have left his residence in Ipetumodu around 7 a.m. to tend to his farm.
However, by midday, disturbing news spread through the town that he had been murdered by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
Speaking under the condition of anonymity due to security concerns, a relative of the deceased said that the incident was promptly reported to operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
“The agency swiftly organized a search team to locate the missing farmer.
“Akeem left for the farm around 7 a.m. on Thursday. The land is located on the border of Ipetumodu and Asipa. Unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered by Amotekun operatives around 12:30 p.m.,” the relative said.
According to the source, the body was taken to the Ipetumodu Police Division, sparking unrest among local residents who were outraged by the brutal killing.
Security personnel reportedly intervened to calm the agitated crowd, assuring them that investigations were underway to apprehend those responsible.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that preliminary findings indicated the victim had been stabbed.
“The deceased has been identified as Akeem Jimoh. Reports submitted at the Ipetumodu Police Division suggest some people are being suspected in connection with the crime,” Ojelabi stated.
He added that the case had been formally transferred for further investigation and assured the public that efforts were ongoing to uncover the perpetrators.
“No arrests have been made yet, but the command is committed to ensuring that justice is served. A full-scale investigation is already in progress,” he added.
