Osun State Government has revealed that there was no recorded case of flooding in the state in 2024.

This is as the state government disclosed that it has implemented flood control measures by dredging waterways and canals, as well as clearing debris across the state.

DAILY POST gathered that this is being carried out through the Osun State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation.

Commissioner for environment and sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin made this known as a guest on a live radio programme on the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, OSBC on Saturday in Osogbo.

Adejoorin added that his ministry is also educating residents on responsible waste disposal and enforcing sanitation policies especially in urban centres

He said, “As we speak, no single case of flooding was recorded in Osun throughout 2024 while many states were negatively affected by floods.”

He pointed out that, “the Nigeria Meteorological Agency NIMET specifically commended the proactive steps taken by Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to prevent floods across Osun State, last year.”

The Commissioner cautioned the people of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse warning that anyone caught will face the wrath of the law

“House owners whose property are blocking waterways should remove those structures with a view to allowing free flow of water in flood prone areas.

“Henceforth, the government will not hesitate to demolish any house built illegally on waterways,” he warned.
