Members of the Legislative Council of Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State have officially suspended the council chairman, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu Ladan.

He was allegedly suspended over serious allegations of misconduct and mismanagement of council funds.

In a letter dated 28 July 2025 and signed by eight of the ten council members, citing lack of accountability and incompetence, they stated that they strongly supported the suspension of the LG chairman.

The Legislative Council explained that the decision was made to ensure proper governance and accountability within the council, in accordance with the Niger State Local Government Law, specifically Sections 24 and 38 of Cap 77.

The letter further disclosed that, as per Section 31(2) of the same law, the embattled chairman is to be suspended immediately while a full investigation into the allegations is conducted.

The Legislative Council also stated that Ladan has been granted a five-day period to prepare and submit a written defence against the claims made against him.

According to the letter, “The issues raised in the allegations are serious, including illegal allocation of plots within the market, refusal of directors to attend Legislative Council meetings, failure to produce financial statements, and the unauthorised awarding of contracts, among other concerns.”

However, two council members representing Nassarawa B Ward and the Majority Leader of Minna South Ward did not support the suspension.
