The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, CP Adamu Abdullahi Ellenman, has denied claims that the 35 women and their children recently rescued from Boko Haram captivity are in detention.

DAILY POST recalls that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Niger State Police Command, led by the head of the squad, DSP Ahmed Saidu, intercepted some vehicles in July conveying the women and their children along Tegina, Madaka, Birnin Gwari and Yauri in Kebbi State.

The women and their children were rescued from the Boko Haram sect, while three drivers of the vehicles were arrested.

Ellenman, speaking to newsmen in Minna, said that contrary to the claims, the victims are in protective custody and well catered for alongside their children.

According to him, “As I am talking to you now, these women and their children are all living well and comfortably in protective custody.

“The government has provided all of them with mattresses and their basic needs. The government has done so much by providing money for their feedings. So, the issue of not taking care of these women is not true and is far from the truth.”

Ellenman assured the public that the safety and well-being of the victims would not be compromised, while appealing to community leaders and relatives to stop spreading unfounded rumours.

“All we are doing is giving the victims reorientation before returning them back to their respective community,” he added.
