The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bauchi State said it has arrested 127 suspects and confiscated more than 1,200 kilograms of hard drugs in just six months.

The state commander of NDLEA, Ali Aminu made this known in a statement to mark the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking on June 26.

According to him, between January and June this year, officers in Bauchi arrested 118 men and nine women involved in drug-related offences.

Out of those arrested, 28 have already been convicted in court, while 18 others are still undergoing trial. Meanwhile, 32 drug users were admitted into counselling and rehabilitation programmes, most of them benefiting from what the agency called “brief interventions.”

He also disclosed that NDLEA operatives seized a staggering 874.585kg of cannabis sativa, 330.588kg of psychotropic substances, and 1.06 grams of methamphetamine, commonly called “ice.”

“Drug trafficking is tearing through communities with substances that are more potent, more dangerous, and more deadly than ever,” he warned, stressing that young people and women are increasingly being targeted by criminal drug syndicates.

He added that the theme for this year’s anti-drug campaign; “The evidence is clear. Invest in prevention, break the cycle” is a timely call for Nigeria to prioritise drug prevention strategies.

The NDLEA, he said, is scaling up its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative by expanding sensitisation campaigns and educational outreach across Bauchi State.

But he admitted the agency can’t do it all alone, urging Nigerians to help bring the menace under control.
