Nasarawa State Police Command has firmly denied reports circulating on social media that over 30 female students of the Federal University, Lafia, were raped during a recent security breach allegedly involving bandits.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, dismissed the claims as entirely unfounded, stating that a thorough investigation uncovered no evidence to support such allegations.

“That story is completely false,” Nansel stated.

“There is no record or credible testimony indicating that bandits entered the university and raped over 30 female students. Our inquiries with school officials and students contradict that narrative.”

He noted that the police had contacted key university personnel, including the institution’s Chief Security Officer and Information Officer, as well as several students. All confirmed that no such incident was reported.

“If such an incident had occurred, it wouldn’t be hidden,” he added.

“Students would have spoken up, and the school authorities would have raised the alarm. But none of that happened.”

However, Nansel confirmed that a robbery did occur on July 27 in the student village area, during which a female student identified as Jennifer reported the theft of her mobile phone, power bank, and handbag. A male student sustained injuries while attempting to flee from the attackers.

“There was indeed a case of robbery, not sexual assault.

“No report of rape was made, and no evidence has surfaced to suggest otherwise. Alleging that 30 female students were raped is not only inaccurate but also irresponsible.” Nansel added

He urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information that could incite fear or panic, adding that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of students and residents in the area.
