The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has accused the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) of being disorganised and confused about its legislative responsibilities.
Malema’s comments come after the MKP, which rejected various government budgets found itself supporting the Appropriation Bill in Parliament this week.
He was speaking at the EFF’s anniversary celebrations in Khayelitsha, Cape Town yesterday.
Malema says, “Fighters, we need to unite our organisation. Without a united EFF, there will never be a strong opposition in South Africa. For sure, you saw yesterday or a day before what happened in Parliament. The so-called official opposition did not know whether they are going or coming but the EFF rescued the situation and led from the front.”
Support base
He says the party will continue to increase its support base.
The EFF has faced various challenges over the past year, which include a decline in party support in the 2024 elections and the recent exit of some EFF top leaders.
Malema says the EFF will continue holding the executive accountable in parliament.
He says, “We have used Parliament as a battleground. Many people today know Parliament because of the EFF. If it was not for the EFF, people would not know that there is a channel on TV that broadcasts Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. Many people today know Honourable Speaker and Point of Order because of the EFF.”
Malema also called on the residents of Khayelitsha to vote for the red berets in next year’s local government elections and remove the Democratic Alliance (DA)
He says, “Because the DA government hates the people of Cape Flats, fighters, we must not be misled. The people of Mitchell’s Plain are being neglected. We must fight for them so that their dignity is restored because they too, this province belongs to them, this city belongs to them. It doesn’t belong to a group of racists who claim to care because they want to defend the benefits of the few.”
