Members and supporters of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party in Gauteng are expected to march in support of KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Today’s march in Johannesburg is a build-up to a national shutdown that is expected to take place on Friday at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
Last week, Mkhwanazi alleged that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who has now been put on suspended leave, interfered with the work of the task team investigating political killings.
In his address to the nation last night, President Cyril Ramaphosa appointed Prof Firoz Cachalia as acting minister and announced that a commission of inquiry will be established that will be chaired by acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga to probe allegations by Mkhwanazi.
Gauteng MKP Spokesperson, Abel Tau says, “We all know that with the advent of the GNU (Government of National Unity) basically South Africa is on its own…I think after the explosive revelation by Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi, he has unfortunately confirmed what we have always believed, that this country has been taken over, not only by white capital for its own interest also by criminal elements.”
