The people of Luuka have been urged to promote reconciliation, peace and unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The call was made by the Luuka District Women League Chairperson and NRM flagbearer for the district Woman MP seat, Ms. Annet Nabirye on Saturday 2nd August, 2025 during a music concert dubbed “Ekibinuko twegaite” held at Luuka District Headquarters. The event was attended by thousands of people across Luuka.

Ms. Nabirye organised the event to appreciate the people of Luuka, who voted for her overwhelmingly in the recent NRM party primaries. She defeated the incumbent, Esther Mbayo after garnering 38,186 votes against Mbayo’s 8,111, according to the official NRM Electoral Commission results.

Addressing her supporters, Ms. Nabirye said the party primaries may have caused some divisions among party members but this was the high time they reconciled and promoted peace and unity for the good of the party and Uganda at large.

She further appealed to fellow Women League Chairpersons in other districts to focus on promoting reconciliation to create a leveled political ground.

She also called upon the NRM members to love their party and should always prioritize the party’s ideology.

“NRM is bigger than all of us, we should promote the four principles of the party since they are key in our country’s development,” Ms. Nabirye said.

In a special way, Ms. Nabirye rallied the people of Luuka to vote for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM flag bearers in the 2026 general elections for more development.

Ms. Justine Nameere, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Greater Masaka Region Affairs also the NRM flag bearer for Masaka City Woman MP re-echoed the call to the people of Luuka to vote for President Museveni and Nabirye.

“Don’t be intimidated, the NRM government brought democracy and it’s the reason why everyone has a right to vote for a person of his/her choice. However, as you vote, go for the right and selfless leaders who have your wellbeing at heart,” Ms. Nameere said.

The prayer session was led by Rev. Canon Moses Dhikange from Central Busoga Diocese and during the same function, Ms. Nabirye was appreciated for steering Luuka’s socio-economic transformation ever since she came on the political scene.

The people of Luuka pledged to vote for her and President Museveni as a token of appreciation for their role in the development of the district.

The revellers were entertained by top artistes such as Ronald Mayinja, Catherine Kusasira, Gravity Omutujju, Phina Mugerwa, Jovan Luzinda and artists from Busoga.

The event was also attended by the Chairpersons at all political levels, Councilors, District NRM League leadership, NRM parliament flag bearers, government officials, among others.
