Lanseria Airport, west of Johannesburg, has confirmed two flight cancellations today due to the ongoing FlySafair pilot strike, now in its second day.
Airport management says FlySafair has continued to keep both the airport and passengers informed about developments in flight operations.
The strike is being led by trade union Solidarity, which has rejected FlySafair’s 5.7% wage increase offer and is demanding a 10.5% increase for the 2025–26 financial year.
A meeting between the airline and the union is scheduled to take place tomorrow with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
Lanseria CBD Executive Christian Faure says three flights were cancelled on the first day of the strike, but the situation has improved.
“Yes, we had some impact yesterday especially, we had three flights cancelled. But FlySafair has kept us informed throughout the entire process. So they did advise us that there would be some flight cancellations. What happened is that at the last minute, some of their contingency plans didn’t happen and we had some passengers that had to be rebooked,” says Faure.
“Today we only have two cancellations, and that’s out of 12 to 15 that we do daily with FlySafair. They’ve kept us well informed throughout the process and we’ve been able to manage it, and it’s only impacted our Cape Town flights. Our Durban and George destinations have not been impacted at all,” he added.
