Legendary Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, has officially announced the cancellation of his upcoming concert originally scheduled for September 5 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Jose Chameleone revealed that his decision was made out of respect for fellow Ugandan artist Fik Fameica, who had already set the same date for his concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
In a composed and sincere statement, the music veteran addressed growing speculation about the potential clash of concerts.6 He emphasized that his deep love for music and commitment to uplifting Ugandan talent guided his choice.
“I want to make it clear to everyone: I’m passionate about Ugandan music. While music is a business and we all deserve to earn from it, my greatest drive is the passion I love music deeply, and above all, I want to see Ugandan music thrive,” Chameleone explained.

He spoke highly of Fik Fameica, referring to him as a promising next-generation artist with exceptional talent. Chameleone acknowledged that Fik likely selected his concert date after careful planning, unaware of any overlap with other major events.
“Fik Fameica is a next-generation artist. He is extremely talented. When I look at the fact that I had a show at Kololo and he had one at Lugogo, it just made me feel like I would be acting out of greed,” Jose Chameleone admitted.

The Valu Valu hitmaker, who has enjoyed years of unwavering support from Ugandan fans, stressed the importance of making room for emerging artists. While the decision to cancel was not easy, he felt it was the right thing to do.
“So I made a big decision to withdraw mine, because I don’t want to appear greedy,” he said.
Chameleone then appealed directly to his fans, encouraging them to rally behind Fik Fameica’s concert instead.
“I’ll reschedule my show. It will still happen. But for now, I ask all my fans to go out and support Fik Fameica on September 5th at Lugogo Cricket Oval.”,he appealed.
His remarks came just a day after Fik Fameica publicly addressed the situation, expressing respect for Jose Chameleone but making it clear he wasn’t afraid of a potential concert clash. Fik added that every artist has their own audience, suggesting both events could have succeeded independently.
Now, with Chameleone stepping aside, Fik Fameica’s concert will proceed without direct competition, giving fans and the industry a moment to celebrate unity and mutual support in Ugandan music.
