Jonard Asiimwe Akiiki, a reknown engineer and Hoima City NRM Chairman, ignited his campaign for Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) for Western Uganda. In a spirited gathering, he unveiled a 29-page manifesto, “Advancing a Legacy of Purposeful Transformation”, a blueprint pulsing with ambition to reshape the region and nation as the 2026 elections loom.
Asiimwe, a PhD candidate in Oil and Gas Stakeholder Engagement, casts himself as a generational torchbearer, fusing the wisdom of Uganda’s founders with the dynamism of its youth. His manifesto, a tapestry of science, grassroots grit, and NRM ideology, pledges to amplify President Yoweri Museveni’s legacy while turbocharging Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the party’s 2026 goals. “Western Uganda will be a beacon of innovation and unity,” he roared, “a powerhouse of progress driven by our people’s dreams.”
His 2025–2030 roadmap is audacious: empowering 100,000 farmers with cooperative networks to slash post-harvest losses by 40%; launching four tech incubation hubs in Hoima, Mbale, Kabale, and Kampala to spark 1,500 jobs and 250 digital exports; and building mineral processing plants in five districts to create 10,000 jobs and $50 million in annual trade. Asiimwe’s vision also includes 20 sports and arts centers to nurture 5,000 young talents, trade academies to formalize 3,000 border SMEs, and mobile civic platforms to inspire 200,000 youth with NRM’s patriotic ethos.
A technocrat with a grassroots heart, Asiimwe’s fingerprints are on Uganda’s transformation from oil infrastructure in Hoima to mining cooperatives in Karamoja and agro-logistics in Kigezi. Through his Jonard Conglomerate Investments, he’s fueled jobs in construction and tech, while his foundation mentors youth and sponsors teams like Kitara FC. “This isn’t a campaign,” he said, eyes gleaming, “it’s a mission to weave science and soul into our nation’s future.”
Rooted in NRM’s pillars Democracy, Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and Socio-Economic Transformation Asiimwe champions digital literacy, green growth, and women’s economic rise. His manifesto, a blend of pragmatism and passion, has electrified supporters who see him as a bridge to a bolder NRM. “We’ll build smarter, unite stronger, and soar higher,” he vowed, rallying the crowd.
Rivals and the Road Ahead, the race for Western Uganda’s CEC Vice Chairperson is heating up, with Asiimwe squaring off against a cadre of contenders, including seasoned incumbents and emerging firebrands, though names remain under wraps. The NRM’s internal elections, slated for August 27–28, 2025, at Kololo’s National Conference, will crown the party’s leadership, setting the stage for the February 2026 national polls under the banner “Settle for the Best – Museveni is the Best.”
As Uganda stands at a crossroads, Asiimwe’s candidacy is a clarion call to harness youth, science, and ideology for progress. His manifesto, a vibrant mosaic of ideas, has ignited hope, positioning him as a custodian of NRM’s legacy and a catalyst for Western Uganda’s renaissance. With the elections nearing, all eyes are on this engineer-turned-visionary to deliver a transformative leap.
