Hearth destroys 5 school rooms at F State faculty, arson suspected – SABC Information

The Free State Department of Education suspects arson is the cause of the fire that burned down five classrooms at Refihletse Combined School in Verkeerdevlei.

Four classrooms were completely burnt down with the fifth one, a Grade R classroom, partially burnt.

Department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says another attempt to burn a classroom happened at the same school last month.

Ndaba says this is the only school in the area that caters for more than 500 learners.

Ndaba says the matter is under police investigation.

“We are taken aback as the department by what happened. We view this as arson. At about 22h30 last night, we were alerted that a building was on fire. The community came out in their numbers to try and help douse the flames,” says Ndaba.
