The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has mourned the passing of Nigerian Tribune journalist, Leon Usigbe, describing him as a dazzling professional.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Sunday, said Usigbe – who was the Abuja Bureau Chief of the newspaper – was an experienced and quintessential journalist.
Ologunagba further described the deceased journalist as an exceptionally cerebral yet calm, friendly and thorough professional who dedicated his life, skills, resources and energy towards the deepening of multi-party democracy, good governance and accountability in the country.
He commiserated with the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune, the PDP Press Corps and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, praying God to grant him eternal rest.
He said the PDP would always remember Usigbe for his professional composure, affable disposition and excellent working relationship as a correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune covering the party.
“The PDP is shocked and deeply grieved by the sudden death of the Abuja Bureau Chief, Villa and PDP Correspondent of the Nigerian Tribune, Dr. Leon Usigbe.
“He was a courageous journalist who stood for justice, fairness and strict adherence to the Rule of Law, fearlessly spoke truth to power with his reporting, opinions and incisive commentaries.
“The PDP mourns, our prayers and hearts go out to his widow and children at this moment of grief. We pray to God to send the comforter to console them with His abiding presence and grace,” the statement said.
