More than 600 000 online school applications for grades one and eight have been recorded in Gauteng.

The provincial education department opened the online system for parents and guardians to apply for placements at their preferred school less than two weeks ago.

Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says parents still have until the end of the month to complete the five-step application process.

“As of two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, about 600 000 applications were accounted for, comprising over 254,000 for grade one and just over 346,000 for grade eight. Parents are advised to continue applying by logging into gdeadmissions.gov.za and making sure that they provide the necessary information.”
