Gauteng police commissioner, Tommy Mthombeni, says they are working closely with their counterparts in KwaZulu-Natal to unlock syndicates operating in the two provinces. This follows revelations by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of criminal syndicates having infiltrated the criminal justice system.
This week, police announced that the firearms including an AK47 were found, following the murder of Engineer Armand Swart last year has been linked to the murders of DJ Sumbody and Vintos. Mthombeni spoke to reporters during Operation Shanela in Alexandra, Johannesburg.
“We have a multidisciplinary team of which were led by counting intelligence from head Office, where we ultimately arrested or unmasked these people who were doing some typical type of organised crime, who ultimately arrested four people, including a police official,” he says.

“And out of those arrests, we got an AK-47, the magazines, four pistols of which the AK-47 currently is the talking point, which is linked with a number of people. At the end of the day, we work with all the other provinces. We solve a number of issues with the KZN province whom we work quite closely with, he adds.”
