The state has added another case to the ongoing trial linked to the killing of 18 people at Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape last year.

The trial of the six accused has been adjourned until tomorrow by the Mthatha High Court Special Sitting in Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court.

The state has linked the firearms used to kill the 18 deceased to the firearms used to kill ANC politician in KwaBhaca, Mncedisi Gijana. He was gunned down at Lubhacweni village in August last year just before the mass murder in Lusikisiki.

The state called its first witness today, the brother of the late politician, Mncedisi Gijana.

The state says the firearms used to kill the 18 deceased have been positively linked to Gijana’s murder.

The court had to be adjourned as the witness broke down while relaying how he found his brother in a pool of blood. This was after three balaclava-clad gunmen carrying rifles came to their home looking for Gijana.

The 18 deceased were fatally shot while preparing for a traditional ceremony at Ngobozana village.

The accused are facing a string of charges which include murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The trial continues on Friday.
