Musician Fik Gaza has broken his silence following intense criticism on social media after his recent shift from the National Unity Platform (NUP) to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

In a phone interview, Fik Gaza expressed frustration with the backlash, saying most of the criticism came from fellow artists aligned with different political parties. He believes these attacks are more about sowing division than encouraging unity.

“We’re all human. People should stop focusing on which political party someone supports. These divisions were created to pit us against each other. In developed countries, people are more united,” Fik Gaza remarked.

Seemingly unfazed by the controversy, Fik Gaza urged his fans to remain true to their own political beliefs and not feel pressured to follow his lead. He emphasized that his focus is on music, not politics.

“Stay where you are. Don’t follow me because I’m not running for office I’m not a politician. I just want fans who support my music. My political choices shouldn’t be mixed with my music career,” he added.

Fik Gaza had long been seen as a staunch NUP supporter and a close associate of party president Bobi Wine. However, just two days ago, he was seen in the company of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, wearing the signature yellow of the NRM. The images went viral, stirring outrage online, especially from those who viewed him as committed to the opposition cause.

When asked about his meeting with the president, Fik Gaza revealed that he didn’t bring up issues like music copyrights, a common concern for Ugandan artists. Instead, his focus was on the plight of youths in the ghettos.

“I just asked him to let me be let me stay in the ghetto and smoke my stuff without being harassed. I didn’t ask for copyright help, because even big names like Eddy Kenzo and Bobi Wine tried and failed. So who am I to ask for that? I just want to live in peace without police arrests,” he explained.
