Former USA goalkeeper Tim Howard has named Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City as the frontrunners to win the Premier League title in the coming season.

The Gunners have finished as runners-up for the last three seasons and are seeking their first league crown since 2004. Chelsea, who won the Club World Cup last month, are also expected to mount a strong challenge.

Liverpool, the defending champions, have bolstered their squad with key additions, while City, who were dethroned last season after four consecutive title wins, remain strong contenders.

Howard told Sky Sports: “Liverpool, for me, are the frontrunners.

“They’ve made incredible signings. They’re going to start the season flying, I know it.

“[But] I can’t bet against Pep Guardiola. They’ve only had one bad season under him. They could come good.

“Arsenal have done amazing business [too] – they got their No.9 (Viktor Gyokeres) so they could really challenge.”
