Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has warned the club against putting too much pressure on Estevão Willian, who joined after the FIFA Club World Cup.
Chelsea signed the Brazilian for £29 million from Palmeiras last year but allowed him to remain at the Brazilian side until this year.
According to The Independent, the Blues’ boss was full of praise for the 18-year-old Brazilian.
“We need to pay a little bit more attention, because first of all he’s from the other part of the world and also he’s very, very young.”
He said the player should be made to feel happy at the club and given time to adapt.
“For me, the biggest mistake we can do with him is to put him under pressure,” he said.
Maresca said that the Brazilian and England international Cole Palmer are similar players, especially in terms of positioning.
“For me, he’s like Cole [Palmer], in terms of – careful – he is like Cole in terms of his position. He can play everywhere.”
The 18-year-old scored Palmeiras’ only goal in their 2–1 defeat to Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final in the United States this summer.
