Deputy Minister for Justice and Constitutional Development, Andries Nel says the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is designed to help end the trafficking of human beings.
This year’s event will be observed globally under the theme “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime, End the Exploitation.”
To mark this day tomorrow, the Department will launch the Local Task Team to support anti-trafficking efforts at ports of entry across the country.
Deputy Minister Nel says they’ll be at the Cape Town International Airport.
“We’ve very deliberately chosen Cape Town International Airport as the site to mark that very, very important day. Because it symbolises ports of entry. Ports of entry are both a risk because it is through ports of entry people are trafficked. But at the same time it represents an opportunity for us to tighten the screws and make it more difficult for trafficking to take place.
