Violence has been reported at Kajuru Local Government council of Kaduna State after suspected cattle rustlers wreaked havoc, leaving at least three people dead.

Many others were feared injured when suspected cattle rustlers attacked Gwaraje village in neighbouring Igabi LGA and made away with about 200 cows.

According to Zagazola Makama on his X handle on Sunday, the armed men reportedly passed through the villages of Kadanya and Anguwan Mairijya where they opened fire and killed a 35-year-old woman, Rahila Danzaria, a resident of Kadanya.

The situation worsened when two men from Gwaraje, identified as Musa Husaini and Muntari Tajo, who were said to be trailing the rustlers, were intercepted by angry youths in Anguwan Mairijya.

The men, possibly mistaken for accomplices or caught in the rising tension, were beaten unconscious by the mob.

Locals in the affected communities are said to be reluctant to speak about the incident, making it difficult for authorities to get clear information about what truly happened.

Security sources confirmed that the police have invited the traditional leaders of Kadanya and Anguwan Mairijya — Sarkin Kadanya Obi Mairuwa and Sarkin Anguwan Samaila Gado — for questioning.

Both are now in custody to assist ongoing investigations.

Preliminary findings have named one Samaila Danzaria of Anguwan Mairijya as a key suspect, though he is currently on the run.

Authorities say efforts are underway to track down all those involved, recover the stolen cattle, and account for any other victims who may have died during the violence.
