Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says it continues to respond to weather-related incidents, with reports of localised flooding in several areas in Cape Town.

Fallen trees and storm debris have also been reported in Blue Downs, Constantia, Blackheath, Sunningdale and Bellville.

Humanitarian aid is being delivered to communities affected by heavy rainfall across parts of the Western Cape.

Hundreds of people in especially low-lying informal areas have spent a cold and miserable night as stormwater flooded roads and settlements.

In Saldanha on the West Coast, numerous settlements have been submerged.

Cold front

The Johannesburg Emergency Services says it remains on high alert for any emergencies as the cold front is expected to hit most parts of the country.

Residents are being encouraged to exercise caution when trying to get warm during the below freezing temperatures.

Joburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says, “Heating devices like heaters, paraffin stoves, mbaula (brazier) must not be left unattended so that we can prevent fire incidents which might occur during this extremely cold temperatures.”

“From our side as a City of Johannesburg, Emergency Management Services and all our units, we remain on high alert together with our disaster management mentoring teams in all seven regions of the city.”
